Click here to read the article "Plastic Films for Agricultural Applications" prepared by Serkan Timur, Deputy General Manager of Sera Plastik. The use of plastic film for agricultural purposes began in 1948, when Prof. E.M. Emert, unable to afford glass for his greenhouse, covered the wooden structure with cellulose acetate film. The significant use of polymers for agricultural purposes began in the early 1950s, when plastic film replaced paper in vegetable mulching applications. Later, the transformation of unused agricultural areas into modern, efficient agricultural lands led to the economic development of these regions. Some of the best examples of this are found in the Almeria region in southern Spain, as well as the Kumluca and Demre regions in Antalya.
